Boston (part 2)

Saturday
: We slept in after getting in after midnight...aaahhh. Then we spent the afternoon wandering around the Quincy Marketplace.

Sunday
: We slept in again, because we could, and then took a walking tour of the "heart of the Freedom Trail" which included Faneuil Hall, the Old State House, King's Chapel, and the Old South Meeting House

Monday: We wandered around the North End and had a canoli (or two) at Mike's Pastries and then headed to Charlestown for a tour of Bunker Hill.

Tuesday: We covered more of the Freedom Trail including Paul Revere's home, The Old North Church, and the Granary cemetery (Paul Revere, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin's parents, and the 5 victims of the Boston massacre are all buried there), and the New State House. Then we went to Beacon Hill so that Chuck could get a picture by the real Cheers bar--it was the highlight of the trip:)

Wednesday: We headed back to Charlestown for a tour of the U.S.S. Constitution and then visited the Boston Museum of Fine Arts--I loved all the Copley and Sergeant paintings, but my favorite was "Boy with a Torn Hat" by Thomas Sully.

Thursday: We went out to Braintree to see the John Adams family homes. John Quincy's library at Peacefield was impressive--made me feel illiterate.

Friday:
We rented a car to drive up to Vermont and do some leaf "peeping". Our plan was to drive to Joseph Smith's birthplace in Sharon, but Chuck spotted a sign for the Robert Frost farm in New Hampshire, so we took a little detour. If I lived there I might end up a poet too--it was gorgeous. The leaves on the way to Sharon were breath-taking and the church has such a neat memorial and visitors' center there. Chuck has an aunt in Vermont, so at the last minute, we decided to drive a little further (2.5 hours:) to see her. I didn't mind the extra driving because of the beautiful scenery--I would definitely move to Vermont if it weren't for the -30 temperatures in the winter. I want to go back and stop at every cheese factory, woodworking shop, antique store, art studio, and maple grove. It was so fun to see Chuck's aunt Janet and her family. Her kids were all sweet and friendly--we really enjoyed the visit. We didn't get back to Boston until after midnight and had to be at the airport at 5:00 the next morning, so we were exhausted when we finally rolled back into St. Johns.

Anyway, it was wonderful. And, yes, I only took one jacket:)

Hey, I was in Boston this last weekend, why didn't we run into each other? I did almost your exact same trip. Except we decided that going to Vermont wasn't worth the 4 hour round trip drive. Now I'm regretting that decision. I miss you.
