Out with the Old
The older I get, the more miraculous each new year feels. If we can wrap up another year in good health, with a roof over our heads, and 12 months of (mostly) good memories...I think it's been a success. For posterity...a quick list of 2011's highlights:
December:
Christmas festivities included a party with the Platts hosted by my parents, complete with pozole, a reenactment of the nativity, a visit from Santa, and what will hopefully be the first annual floating lantern launch. My mom talked about how Christ is the "light of the world" and we released 8-10 huge floating lanterns into the wintry night sky. It was breathtaking.
We spent Christmas Eve with the Sundahls and Rob. We had a yummy ham feast and spent the next 5 days eating leftovers:) We had dinner with my fam Christmas day and then got together with Marc and Laurette'sfamily for a fun brunch.
The kids had the time of their lives tubing in Alpine with the Wright fam. We had to drag Parker kicking and screaming into the car:)
November:
A quick trip to Utah for a baby blessing (Ethan James Law is the newest addition to the Humpherys fam).
Thanksgiving with the Platts--I made cornbread stuffing, cranberry salad, Sam's fabulous green bean casserole, and 4 pies (bittersweet chocolate, strawberry rhubarb, lemon meringue, and pumpkin). It was delicious!
October:
Claire's blessing
A fabulous trip to Boston for Chuck and I (we let Claire tag along).
August-September:
Back to school and soccer for the boys. It was Briton's first year for both--he felt like pretty big stuff in his fancy soccer uniform and again wearing a back pack on his first day of kindergarten.
July:
Probably the busiest month of our lives...highlighted by the arrival of sweet Claire Mathilde and the return of my parents from a mission to England. Parker and Charlie turned 9 and 7, respectively.
June:
Lots of swimming, snow cones, and sitting with my feet propped up under the ceiling fan. Brit turned 5--I remembered this year, hallelujah!
May:
We wrapped up a busy school year with Charlie and Parks both at home. Jane turned 3! We celebrated our 10th anniversary with a quick trip to Sedona with Jill and Jeremy.
April:
We spent Easter in Utah with the Humpherys clan--couldn't miss the annual Easter egg hunt.
March:
Another glorious spring break with all the Platt cousins in Scottsdale--a week out of the wind felt heavenly.
February:
Can't remember--probably just wind and Valentine's day:)
January:
Fun week to California with the Sundahls. The kids loved the beach and spent hours catching crabs and searching for shells.
